| 118876 | 2003-02-06 21:32:00 | Hi, I have a computer running Windows XP Professional, and am networked with crossover cable to a computer running Windows ME. I can access all the files on the ME compute, but when the ME computer tries to access mine, it is prompted to enter a password. I have no idea what this is for or about, I have not set up a password for my shared folders or anything. I am running Zone Alarm Pro, this may be doing something? Any help would be appreciated, -Jordan |

| 118877 | 2003-02-06 21:46:00 | On the XP PC, Right-Click on My Computer and select Manage Click on Users and Groups Click Users Right-Click and create a new User This user has to have the same user name and password as you are using to log onto the ME PC! You sohuld be fine after that :-) Cheers Chilling_Silence |

| 118878 | 2003-02-06 21:50:00 | Have done that, and now on the ME computer I am not prompted for a password, instead I am given an error, Unknown Error 31, and it says the XP computer is not accessible. | XP-dition (3016) | ||

Trying to access from Windows 9x to Windows XP with matching usernames but using blank ( = no ) passwords will result in an "Unknown Error 31" |

| 118881 | 2003-02-06 23:01:00 | I did this just the other day with a wireless network. You need to login using the same usernames and passwords on both comps. I also added both comps to the same workgroup. |

As long as there is a user/password match on the XP machine that matches the currently logged on person on the other machine. > I also added both comps to the same workgroup. This of course is required. |

Not really, Im part of adomain at the moment but I can still access files on other workgroups/domains on this network. It helps but is not a 'Need'. Make sure the users have actually got passwords. It may pay to setup a new user on both PC's with the same name and password (you need a password, it cannot be blank AFAIK) and give the user Admin rights on both PC's :-) |

Not on a domain of course which is an entirely different kettle of fish but just two machines networked togeather you need to be in the same workgroup. |
