I think I've settled on a GF4MX440 (although other suggestions are appreciated), but there are SO many different manufacturers of this card, and I have no idea which one to go for - for the same model it seems the prices range about $80! So which manufacturer should I go for? Or do they not really matter, and I should just go for the model card I want? Also will a GF4 work on an oldish PC (like a Athlon 700 machine), or would it be better for me to go for a GF2? Mike. |

| 118840 | 2003-02-06 20:29:00 | Mike,just my experience,limited as it is.PC Co installed a GF4MX440 in this thing.Duron 800,Win ME,2 yrs old.They couldn't get it going properly,so then installed a GF2 GTS card,32mb. Which only crashes on the odd game!!!!Although I have yet to install the latest drivers. :-( | Neil McC (178) | ||

The geforce4MX series of cards is based on the exact same chipset that the gforce2 were....Just improved a fair bit,so they do indeed out perform any and all geforce2 cards. And while they are probally worth looking into as a budget card they are still old tech. If you want much improved performence id get a gforce4ti4200,or even a gforce3 is better then a gforce4mx,you wont get radical results upgrading a gforce2 to a gforce4mx. |

| 118845 | 2003-02-06 23:51:00 | Asus cost a lot I've got no idea if they're any better or not. The people I know can't afford to get an Asus. Leadtek are regarded to have the best 2d quality because they have better filters in them. Makes it nicer when working in excel and browsing forums or whatever. Gainward try to market themselves as more of an overclockers card. I'd prefer the leadtek myself. Here is a comparison of GF4 MX440 cards (www.overclockers.co.nz) |
