Problem is that the modem is not getting a dial tone and subsequently not dailing. Picked up a thread on PF1 details same sort of issue, covered pretty well what I had completed so far ie changed cable, another machine works ok connected to same phone jack, check that settings (modem, dial-up) were same for machine that worked. Although I have not taken the next steps looking for drivers other than those suppyled, or of physically pulling the card, either to re-seat or relocate to new slot as the hardware has only just come out of the shop and I dont want to "void" his warrenty. So its back to the shop in the morning.... Quick (sort of related question): The modem 'identified' in the Devise Manger is a Lucent Win Modem, but the modem listed ion the recipt is Dynalink Internal PCI modem. Are these not different? Apprieciate any input! |

| 118793 | 2003-02-06 07:42:00 | Just a thought, is it possible that another modem was installed before the Lucent one, maybe at the shop. If they installed and then removed the dynalink modem they might have only pulled the hardware rather than uninstall it properly. I would look at uninstalling the modem(s) and rebooting and seeing if windows will detect it and load drivers for it accordingly. I also would check that the line to the modem is plugged in the right hole as some modems have two sockets, one for Line In and one for the Phone, I suppose you have already looked at that but just in case....... |

| 118796 | 2003-02-06 21:21:00 | Lucent is the brand of chip used in dynalink modems hence your OS will detect a Lucent modem not a dynalink........ You have probably done all this but just in case: (Provided your warranty permits you to perform hardware changes) 1) Uninstall the modem. 2) Disconnect the power and remove the modem from the motherboard. 3) Reboot. There should be now no modem installed. 4) Shut down, disconnect the power, and re insert the modem. 5) Reboot. Your OS should detect a new device and ask you to insert the CD with the drivers. Follow the steps and if still no joy then I'd suggest returning the box to the retailer for them to fix. |

| 118798 | 2003-02-09 08:01:00 | Mine is the same modem and was dead after I uninstalled a program (Think it was a fast downloader.) I went over all the settings in the dialler properties then went over them again with the help at Clear with no success. Couldn't think of anything else so did one of my amazing re-installs of Win98 and that fixed it. Cheers...Ken. | paradox (1082) | ||
