i'm thinking of building a new computer but i am not sure of what cpu i should get ?:| .I hear that Athlon XP's overheat??
btw when i've finish deciding on what cpu to get what is the best motherboard u can get for about $250?Athlon XP and P4

118766 2003-02-06 03:03:00 Which CPU you choose is up to you really. There aren't that many differences.

If your doing serious number crunching a P4 will be better.
An Athlon is not as quick on the number crunching (talking fractions of seconds here) but they are heaps cheaper.
Yes Athlons have a high heat output, so do P4's but since most people have AMD's you tend to hear about it more.
If you have CPU, Case, PSU fans then it won't overheat, the differentiation occurs when you actually want quiet fans. Then there is a whole new market.

I don't know much about P4 motherboards, but if your forking out $250 for an AMD board make sure it has the KT400 chipset.
