2003-02-08 10:36:00 | OK, OK I know it's not computer related other than the fact that I've been searching the net but... does anyone know of a really nice wedding venue in Auckland? Requirements are: outdoor/indoor (it could rain), dance till whenever (DJ friend has offered services), attractive surroundings, self-catering (a friend has offered to cater), wheelchair access (groom's mother). Preferably West, North or Central. Places that have been rejected out of hand include boring halls surrounded by grass, boring halls with no outdoors, the zoo (hey, I like that idea but the bride doesn't) and places with early curfews. Date will be November. Any ideas?

2003-02-08 22:17:00 | >How about on a boat on Auckland Habour with the moon shinning on the water Risk assessment states that the effectiveness of this one is reliant on a full moon and calm seas. Our luck it will be a moonless night and a hurricane with small children falling overboard and half the guests seasick. This one was contemplated for all of about 5 seconds and discarded. They've come up with a really nice restaurant venue in Kumeu. The trouble is by the time you pay bar prices on drinks cost will equal a house deposit (literally). So now we're looking at the do-it-yourself option and trying to match it. (A marquee in the paddock over a gorse bush, flying fox access and limited parking tends to eliminate our place from the equation. Even if we remove the gorse). We have 2 local halls. One is small and surrounded by grass. The other big and old with no outdoors. Both were discarded as options. Current thoughts would be camps like Otimai (Guide camp in Oratia but the kid, although an ex-Guide is against this one) or MERC (11pm curfew). The wedding planner sites tend to list the restaurant centres rather than camps. Anyone know of any camps or great halls?

2003-02-09 00:50:00 | Uh.. This isn't a park or anything.. How about the IDG Server room?? - there's nothing more romantic than watching some servers go round doing their tasks while you say your vows in sync with the humming of the Air Conditioning Unit :p Otherwise Motu Moana scout camp has had weddings held their - they provide the power and grass/land/tables/chairs/etc and you provide the Marquee and something to cover the tables, food and so forth... But will probably receive as less attention than the zoo proposal. >Motu Moana Was thinking of that this morning but couldn't remember the name of it. I see on their website that they have an abseiling tower (this idea has already been explored - abseiling down the cliffs at Long Bay to a Celebrant with reception held at MERC. Idea was rejected for some reason. Kids these days, no sense of adventure).

2003-02-09 02:48:00 | Although my wife and I are from the North Shore we have been to two weddings in recent months in South Ak at Manurewa. Both were in Hill Rd and both were great venues. I know you did not list South Ak as a preferred venue and it may be too far for getting things organised. One of the ones in Hill Rd was at the Nathan Homestead which is run by the Manurewa City Council. It is not expensive and had great indoor/outdoor flow. You can hire differing combination of rooms and for one hour to many hours. You can have the photographs at the Botanic gardens which are only a hop down the road. My son tells me that also the Ak City Council have a place in New Nth Rd in Mt Albert which they rent out. If you like I can try to find out more if his recall on the name of the place comes back to him. hope that some help :)

2003-02-09 02:59:00 | Thanks Misty, New North Road sounds interesting (so long as it's self-catering). South Auckland is off the list due to distance. We're in the hills to the West, the Groom's parents on the North Shore.

2003-02-09 03:34:00 | Suppose the Botanic Gardens aren't an option?? Have just typed in "wedding venues in Auckland" on Google and come up with an interesting one . newzealandwedding . co . nz/auckland-wedding . html" target="_blank">www . newzealandwedding . co . nz clicked on it and came up with Aoterao Weddings Auckland, New Zealand wedding venues If you are looking for wedding venues in Auckland New Zealand, we can suggest the following parks in the metropolitan area . - Bastion Point - Auckland Domain - on one of the mountain tops overlooking Auckland city - Parnell Rose gardens - Western Springs with the swans - Cornwall Park amongst the rolling hills and mature trees - Mt Eden volcano Goes on to beaches etc . Hope this is of some use

2003-02-09 03:53:00 | Hi Iris, I've also looked at some of the wedding sites. Trouble with things like a picnic lunch on the top of a volcano is - what do you do if it rains? Revert to McDonalds? Apparently the Rose Gardens in Parnell will give a refund if you don't use it due to weather but this doesn't solve the problem of where you do go at the last minute. They also have a couple of restaurants (2 sizes) but no wheel chair access and the kids have found a restaurant with surroundings that they prefer at a similar cost. Marquees sound fine - in good weather. But I've done enough camping not to want to go that way (nothing like the fear of guy ropes failing and flapping canvas in a storm). Thought of another one - Karanga camp. We were on a Brownie camp there years ago. Unfortunately no web site. I can only make suggestions, ultimately it is not my decision (although allocated budget can help define decisions!). I'm just trying to come up with a list of suggestions for them to visit.
