119107 2003-02-07 08:52:00 I have a couple of programs that start automatically when Win98SE loads.

MS Messenger is one (blame a kid for this - I don't use it) and also WinProxy (causing me grief, long story).

I'd rather load Windows then decide myself whether or not I wish to run them.

Neither of these 2 programs appear in the Start Up list so how do I stop them automatically loading?

119108 2003-02-07 09:01:00 Do a search for startup.exe it is an excellent little program. mikebartnz (21)
119109 2003-02-07 09:01:00 There is a program I used to use, it was suggested by the old pressF1 web site called EasyCleaner or was it RegClean, that will show all the program that will start automatically when you turn the computer on.

Sorry I can not help more I just made a hot headed exit from Windows and now cooling down with Linux.

119110 2003-02-07 09:06:00 MSN or Messenger can be blocked from the startup via the Preferences or Options within the program itself, I don't have MSN on this one so cannot give a specific path to it.

I would also look in Start > Run > msconfig > enter > Startup Tab and look for the MSN entries as I have also disabled them there.

When I want MSN I just double click the short cut on the desktop.

Sorry, just read your post again, anyway if it is not in the the above check the MSN > File or one of the other toolbar links.

WinProxy I cannot help you with

119111 2003-02-07 09:14:00 OK it is not EasyCleaner beta 1, I just rub that from WINE

It must be CleanReg or RegClean (that not the MicroSoft one)

119112 2003-02-07 09:26:00 How about RegCleaner
pop along to www.vtoy.fi

119113 2003-02-07 09:26:00 Thanks for that. Have found the settings in Messenger and turned it off.

Will look at Reg Cleaner later (think it was on a recent PC World disk) for WinProxy. I should probably fix WinProxy rather than disable it but again that will have to wait for another day.

119114 2003-02-07 21:44:00 Hi Heather

Go: Start > Programmes > Accessories > System Tools > System Information and click. In System Information go: Tools > System Configuration Utilility and click the Start Up tab. Uncheck any programmes that you do not want to run at start up.

You can get there quicker Start > run but, can't remember what to type. Someone on PF1 will though.
