1329467 2013-02-22 08:10:00 Broadband has just arrived in my area, Taupaki (near Kumeu). A few things to note

- We have received a Technicolor Modem from Telecom. When I initially attempted to set it up it took the best part of 20-30 minutes for the broadband light to fully light up and stop flashing before I could proceed.
- While the ping has improved on our old Farm Side connection, the download and upload speeds have decreased. Just did a speed test using the speedtest.net tool. The result were ping - 85, download speed - 0.29mbps & upload speed - 0.20mbps.

This speed seems very slow. Has anyone got any suggestions to improve it?

1329468 2013-02-22 08:20:00 Hi, welcome to PressF1,

Have you tried your broadband speed test with everything but the modem removed from the phone line sockets?

1329469 2013-02-22 08:28:00 Removed everything but the modem from the phone sockets/lines.

New results - ping 69ms, download speed 0.29mbps, upload speed 0.18mbps

1329470 2013-02-22 08:35:00 Did you use satellite with Farm Side?

Do you have electric fences nearby? Do your close neighbours have ADSL broadband, and what sort of connection can they achieve?

It might be worthwhile phoning Telecom and get them do a few checks on the line quality.

1329471 2013-02-22 08:43:00 Okay. Thanks, buddy. Will do that now.

It is unlikely to be the modem?

1329472 2013-02-22 08:48:00 It could be the modem. Telecom might send out a replacement modem if no other causes for your connection problems can be found. Did they give you an indication on what sort of speeds are realistic for your connection? Jen (38)
1329473 2013-02-22 10:31:00 My guess is if you are rural and have only just got DSL you're on a mini dslam/conklin and as a result are going to have sucky speeds.

Ring telecom tell then you're having speed problems and see what they offer. You can get a master splitter installed but it may not help in your case.

1329474 2013-02-22 22:52:00 May not be your issue, but Xtra has been slow for me too - not that slow however.
Just now it died totally, rebooted everything, and LAN came up but no websites. Ping OK, so changed to OpenDNS servers and voila it's all OK and speed happy.

1329475 2013-02-22 23:06:00 I'm having issues with my Telecom ADSL connection today and last night, randomly very slow and crappy, right now it's working fine but half an hour ago it was worse than dialup .

Line speed is fine, haven't tried other DNS yet
