1328667 2013-02-18 06:54:00 I've had this issue a few years back and just put him onto Win Live Mail to get around it, but has anyone had this issue with Windows 7 and Outlook 2003 in that Outlook sometimes seems to convert some email from HTML into plain text?
Xp and Outlook 2003 they come through as HTML emails, the same emails in Win 7 and Outlook 2003 come through as plain (or maybe Rich) text.

This is not all email, just from 3 or 4 different people and not all created in the same email client. - One even seems to have been composed in webmail (gmail).

Clients AV is MSE, so that shouldnt be causing it.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

1328668 2013-02-18 07:35:00 Since its only some mails, it looks like it may be a bit "hit & miss"

Just doing some reading, apparently Google Desktop Add-in can cause it:
In Outlook, go to Tools, Options, Other tab, Advanced Options, Add-in Manager. Uncheck the Google Desktop add-in.

Just found the following article as well, look for the entry from Brian Tillman ( 6th post - check settings) www.pcreview.co.uk

1328669 2013-02-19 00:17:00 Hmm, interesting, thanks for that. Have tried looking up a few sources, but they didnt lead to that. It would be interesting to see if that solves it. As for the google desktop, Im not sure it is installed but will be worth looking at that first.
Oddly, one of the contacts that it is happening to, is coming from a Gmail account.

Thanks for the pointers, very much appreciated. - It is an odd problem.

1328670 2013-02-19 01:17:00 I've had trouble with a client's Outlook formatting OUTGOING mail as "Rich Text" rather than HTML or Plain, despite the global settings, as it also stores format settings per Contact (and seems to decide for itself which to use at any given time...).

Is there any common factor to the problem mails?
Illegal line lengths (>1000 characters)?
Broken MIME part boundaries or incorrectly declared types?
Missing blank line between headers & body?

1328671 2013-02-19 03:13:00 ooo, that sounds like a PITA Fred. Was that 2003? Dont think I have struck that one (thank goodness!)

Dont really know, had a quick look for some sort of common thing, one of the senders was a Gmail account, 2 OE and 1 Thunderbird that I could see so certianly nothing common there (although there must be). Seems something to do with the way Outlook 2003 is manipulated by Win 7. It screws up attachments from those senders also resulting in an email about a yard long fill of letters and numbers. But its not doing it from all senders, just 4-5 they get mail from.

I'll add those propmts to my list and when I go up there it will give me more points to look to try and get to the bottom of it.
Thanks, appreciate it.

Ideally you want to be comparing the raw messages, and if possible view them in a different client as well.

Maybe if you could get a problem sender to cc you as well, unless you can shift them to an imap server and view them with different clients on the same account. (What you don't want to do is forward them from Outlook, as that will re-encode the mail and destroy any evidence).
