Cheapest I could find quickly with a big screen. Top end of your budget though and not the best quality out there - but those are your trade offs at that price point unfortunately....

1329677 2013-04-24 22:45:00 Ok an update............

Peach um......died before we managed to find a new laptop...........

We looked at options and instead went for a newly built tower ............not off the shelf tower....which seems to be going mighty fine........ Thankies............. :)
We are possibly able....in time when he is not absolutely swamped with work.... to resurect our peach back to life, so i will have 2 towers and I have disreguarded the laptop idea, but am still thinking we might get a tablet to take out and about with us, and for use at home instead of our phones? one kidlet is a steadfast phone surfer and very rarely gets on the puter, but is a constant wifi user....

ive read quite a bit on the nexus that Chill raves about.... but have yet to go in and have a look.....for the kids im thinking a 7" is fine?
but am not totally sure i should spend that much...lol cos its gonna be the kids using it.... mostly. will it survive?
and while i was browsing i found that a Ipad is not as dare as i expected...but we are not apple people and have no app;e products at all so think it would make life difficult to us if it isnt compatable with what we have? useage, and ease to learn etc? and its more than i wanted to spend too......lol

i really need to go and see how big these tablets are............. is there any brands i shouldnt look at?

:)

1329678 2013-04-25 01:22:00 Hi Beetle

It's worth looking at these from overseas - free shipping to NZ

or

Some good prices and the Ainol tablets get good reviews.

1329679 2013-04-25 06:17:00 Yeah my workmate went and bought 3 of them, one for his wife and one for each of his kids, they all use the N7 at their main personal devices now! :D Chilling_Silence (9)
1329680 2013-04-25 13:08:00 I still kinda want one even with a 10" tablet already that doesn't get enough use. I just got some Bluetooth speakers and set it up as a radio alarm clock which it does awesomely.
If you want cheap and local for the kids there's always the acer I mentioned earlier if the warehouse still have them @ $250 and I've seen the 7" galaxy tab 2 around that price also. Not as nice as the Nexs but still capable machines for the price.

1329681 2013-04-27 02:00:00 Ok we checked out a nexus at dick smith........ still not sure i can warrant the $$ so may look at a cheaper one to start with like what dugimodo suggested and if we can look after that well enuf then maybe get a nexus later, i prefer the size of a tablet or a nexus 10 size myself........... the 7 seemed to be a bit small for my plans even tho it has it all..... i just cant justify the $$

thanks all for your input........... maybe we should go to warehouse to have a looky

and what is a nextbook? and a Vonino? are these no name brands?
