119558 2003-02-09 07:26:00 What is your modem? What speeds do you get off it now? What is your Operating System to find compatible programs for you and give instructions helpful for your OS.

There's simple tweaks that you can do on your own computer and then there's programs you can download that tweak the advance settings like the MTU settings.

Tweak'e would most likely know what you'd need.

119559 2003-02-09 07:34:00 If you haven't already got extra setting added to slow your connection speed you will probably find if you do this it will give you faster downloads and a more stable connection
Sounds strange but slower sometimes results in faster.
.
Let me know your operating system and modem make and model.

119560 2003-02-09 07:42:00 hi its a rockwell 56k datra fax modem , i run windows 98 it runs at about 4000 to 4400 bps farmdude52 (2056)
119561 2003-02-09 07:46:00 Just to confirm this. You sure it's 4000bps and 4400bps not 40,000bps (40kbps) or 44,000bps (44kbps)?

If it's correct then this is definitely too slow and probably modem drivers need updating and settings for modem needs to be applied.

119564 2003-02-09 08:04:00 OK try this.
Double-click on My Computer, then double-click on Dial-Up Networking.
Right-click on the ISP connection icon and choose Properties.
Click the Configure button.
Change maximum speed to 38.400
Click the Connection tab.
Click the Advanced button.
In "Extra settings," enter the string. +MS=V34 if there is anything there already delete it first.
Click OK, OK again and OK again
Shut down the computer and restart to activate the changes.

i wouldn't change the max speed. have it 56000 or better otherwise the modem will only talk to the pc at 38400 and will waste any modem compression you get (ie the modem to pc becomes a bottle neck)
tweak'e (174)
119566 2003-02-09 08:53:00 It needs to be set at 38400 as the +MS=V34 setting gives a Max connection speed of 33k Jim B (153)
