no it dosn't. it has nothing to do with it whatsoever.
the +MS=V34 simply makes the modem use the v34 protocol(which runs at 33k max) instead of v90. the 38400 is the modem to pc speed which is indepentant of the protocols used.

Theory does not always work out for the best.
Have learnt the hard way.

119569 2003-02-09 09:34:00 the catch with it is when you get an easly compressable download the modem can download it at 50k, but because it can only send it to the pc at 38k it has to stop downloading and wait for the pc to catch up which makes stringing it a little pointless. tweak'e (174)
119570 2003-02-09 09:50:00 i'll eat my shorts man!

i just tried various settings on and found NO difference what so ever. even setting it to 9600 didn't slow it down. makes me wonder why MS even put that setting in ?:|

119571 2003-02-09 09:53:00 Hi farmdude

Have a look at this www.modem-help.co.uk to read up about modems, init strings, telco's, etc. You'll also find intersting stuff on the different Rockwell chips and modem makers.

cheers

119574 2003-02-09 10:14:00 Sounds as if your phone lines are really bad plus you have electric fence problems.
If cost is not a problem it might be worthwhile to consider the Dynalink external rural modem.
