120126 2003-02-11 02:30:00 I am running 98se, pIII 1.0 GHz.

Under device manager when I choose a device and the select a driver, several have .vxd file in brackets.

It's the same 3 files, vdd.vxd, ntkern.vxd, and vcomm.vxd and all looking in the same place.

C:\windows\system\vmm32.vxd

Have checked out different websites some say lockups, crashes, pauses in different applications can be fixed by putting the files in the above file path. But others say its a hang up from previous O/S and ignore it.

Which cabs are the above vxd files in and how do you go about extracting them.

What are other peoples opinions, do you ignore them or put them there.

And if you put them there anyway what harm can they do.

120128 2003-02-11 03:06:00 When surfing the net every couple of minutes it will stop responding the world will spin (IE6) but the telephones in the systray show no response for about 30 seconds.

have searched the net for answers, heaps of people seem to have the same prob, but never a solution.

When I looked at the drivers for the modem it has.

C:\windows\system\vmm32.vxd(vcomm.vxd)

The modem is a CNet C56K modem, under device manager in modems it says Intel HaM Data fax voice.

Was bascially clutching at straws for a solution.

120129 2003-02-11 03:31:00 Welcome to the world of WinModems.

Nobody has discovered the reasons for the stalling as far as I know, but in my experience it affects many WinModems.

When I changed over to external hardware modems it cured it. Some people blame the ISP. In my case it was the modems, or their drivers. Updating drivers did not seem to help either.
