| 119924 | 2003-02-10 04:16:00 | Hi Yall I tried to down load a linked pdf file from nz fire service web site, fire.org.nz I went to evacuation link and tried to download the pdf info for booklet [have a look youll see what I mean] All I got was the wee icon in the corner that usually comes up when you have a graphic that you cant see [clear as mud eh?] what have I got to do to get this file? Please help old Hugh rgds |

| 119925 | 2003-02-10 04:42:00 | Hmmm ..... I'm not completely sure of what you mean by "download". Sometimes left-clicking on a large pdf in IE will stall the browser. I find it much easier to right-click the link, choose Save Target As... and save it to your hard drive. You can then open the pdf file at your leisure later, and continue on surfing in the meantime. :) |

| 119926 | 2003-02-10 07:16:00 | Had no trouble getting it myself assuming I have got the right file, the one I downloaded was called EvacGuide, is a PDF file and is 598kb in size. What did I do ? I just double clicked it and when prompted for a download location pointed it to a folder and clicked save. So.....try double clicking it instead of Saving Target As. If that fails send me a email at duckyduck@NOSPAMemailpinoy.com (remove the NOSPAM from the address) and I will send it on to you. |

| 119927 | 2003-02-10 09:09:00 | Hugh, Do you have Acrobat Reader installed, and if so, is it the latest version? I have a feeling that if you try to run a document (whether it's a quick time movie, pdf or whatever) without the required program installed then you will get just an icon. If you have, say, Acrobat Reader 3, and the document was created in Acrobat 5 then it's possible (not sure on this one) that the same thing might happen. Acrobat reader is available at http://www.adobe.com/ Reader is completely free, to create the documents costs the money. If you have got Reader installed and it's not loading then save the program to disk and try opening it from Reader itself. |

| 119929 | 2003-02-10 09:33:00 | btw if you don't want the pdf opening up in your browser then delete the pdf plugin and set up the extention pdf so it gets downloaded like a normal download. i used to have a prob with pdf's crashing my browser. | tweak'e (174) | ||

During the war on buses in the UK there used to be posters with the message "Is your journey really necessary?" So I tend to ask "Is your pdf really necessary?" I feel many pdfs that one wants to download just for plain vanilla information could just as easily be a text file without the bells and whistles, but thats just my limited viewpoint. |
