119833 2003-02-10 00:16:00 Can someone please provide a definative answer why we should buy Citrix XP over Win2000 Terminal services? Our consultant is recommending Citrix, but the price is high. Small company with about 20PCs and 2 remote offices - running Small Business server.

119834 2003-02-10 00:25:00 What about .NET and its Terminal Services? Have you looked into that as I know somebody who has already implemented it using RC2 for .NET Server?! Chilling_Silence (9)
119835 2003-02-10 02:10:00 Can't the consultant provide good reasons?

Citrix have been at it a few years longer than MS. They may understand it better. I'm sure they understand how nice it is to work with MS. ;-)

119836 2003-02-10 02:31:00 There are specific reasons for using Citrix especially if your remote offices are connecting via dial up modem. Citrix dial up connection is easier to work with compared to Windows dial up connection.

Citrix use a proprietry protocol called ICA which uses lower bandwidth per workstation compared to Windows Terminal Server which use their own protocol called RDP. From memory I think it was 8kbps per ICA connection compared to 14kbps for RDP (could be wrong there but basically ICA is thinner than RDP).

119837 2003-02-12 21:03:00 Pity that Microsoft .NET SErver editions no longer exist.

As they should have, Windows Server 2003 editions are now out. There is also a new Terminal Server layout as well.
