120083 2003-02-11 01:29:00 and what do you know! on the 15 of January a bios flash was released to allow the board to take 2500+ CPU's and above.
It says the flash will allow it to support the Barton, i don't know how they fathom that considering the details of the Barton are still secret?

120084 2003-02-11 01:38:00 Sounds like that article is either out of date or wrong.
From what i have read, there was never a KT333A they just changed things after everyone complained about the issues with KT333.
The KT400 supports DDR400 which isn't even a finalised standard. Bar that the KT400 seems like an ok chip.
There was mention that there could be a KT400A that is more suited to the higher speed processors, but we won't know till it actually appears.

120085 2003-02-11 02:20:00 I've got the Gigabyte board and it runs fine with a Athlon 1700XP+(Palmino core) . The board is a good preformer and for the money it cant really be bet . But it does lack overclocking features and has a confusing BIOS . If you can buy a board with the nForce 2 chipset . Stay away from Soltek as their board have slowly been going down hill over the last few months . Check out www . overclockers . co . nz for reviews of both boards, they will be more relevant as they are written for NZer's .

As for the KT400 chipset, its not bad, but its not brilliant . In terms of preformance its not much better than a good board with the KT333 chipset . But the benifits it does offer are AGP8x for future upgrades and the unofficial support of PC3200 ram .

What chipset you should get really depends on what you'll use ya rig for . If you wanna get the highest score in 3D Marks 2001 then a board with the nForce 2 chipset is the best option . But if your just an average user then the Kt400 is just as good . Boards with the KT400 on average seem to be far cheaper and offer better value for money .

But out of those two boards definatly stay well clear of the soltek board, and if you dont mind the KT400 chipet then the Gigabyte board is a good preformer and offer good value for money

120087 2003-02-11 04:02:00 > So whats the deal with the 1.5 volt thing with AGP?

Hi Roofus, I have been investigating new mother boards recently as well. One thing I noticed mentioned with the 4x AGP (or 8x) is that on some boards the AGP is not backward compatible with the 2x AGP cards because of the different voltage used.

AGP card 2x (= 3.3v) or 4x (= 1.5v)

You might want to check out the voltage of your video card.

120088 2003-02-11 04:46:00 Hi Rootus,

Get the Feb2003 APCUser mag, they have done an excellent article re upgrading your PC with excellent comparisons of everything from the mouse to the mobo

They recommend the Asus A7N8X Deluxe, however it might not suit you. You didn't give any indication of what you will be using your PC for
