119934 2003-02-10 10:16:00 Well things from the IRD (for example) are produced in glossy booklets.

Turning them into HTML would be a right pain in the neck and wouldn't match the original whereas pdfs are fast and do match. So the question therefore is not whether they should use pdfs but whether they should use glossy booklets in the first place (or save tax payer dollars by producing them more simply!)

Same with lots of govt depts.

Did a school prospectus once. Weeks of work to change it to HTML. Half an hour with pdf. (I guess you could call it marketing but for the school it was useful).

Current stuff - we need to put word documents up. Using Word limits the end users to Word people. Pdf means all users. We also need it secure so it can't be changed. Can't do that in Word.

I dont have an option with this particular booklet that I required.
I also have to get copies of schematic diagrams etc and pdf seems to be the way to fly
