| 120507 | 2003-02-12 04:24:00 | Ethernet as the modem/router usually as NAT built into it which is a good firewall. Also easier if you want more than one PC to share the internet as there is no PC that must be on all the time. (as there would be with a USB modem) |

I would recommend a router, they are heaps safer from crackers etc, and you can get a decent one for around $250, I was looking at the Dynalink 210, which is $250 from qmb... has NAT so you'd be pretty safe - David |

As for power usage you are only talking in milliamps and probably a Max of 750mA (@5V = 3.75W). ADSL Routers (Ethernet) are a lot more handy and yes - secure. With NAT, port forwarding and even real firewalling if you want (although the rules are tricky & time consuming) - the Dynalinks are nice to deal with.. Currently a Vigor 2600 is winging its way from Holland for me to try out. Cost me $540 but has a 4 port auto sensing switch built in which detects the type of cable you plug into it and changes to suit it. Also has a full firewall/NAT built in as well. |

| 120512 | 2003-02-13 00:26:00 | USB are akin to WinModems, they tend to rely on your PC for some of their processing. External ethernet are the way to go. My personal preference is the Asus AAM6000. |

| 120513 | 2003-02-13 01:13:00 | Ethernet is "mature" technology. It usually works. People do seem to have problems using printers, scanners, and modems on USB ports. :-( Maybe USB will be a Good Thing. One day, when they get it right. :D |
