120218 2003-02-11 07:08:00 Has anybody got any suggestions on how I can rid myself of my 17" CRT which will cost me too much to repair?
To be on the technical side, the line output transistor has short circuited, and they also noted the line output transformer to be faulty (but still working). The estimated repair cost by Tisco would've been about $300-350 which is obviously cheaper to buy a brand new 17" CRT.

So, how do I get rid of this large door-stopper? Is there any place that will recycle it, or does anybody buy these things and repair it themself for a much lower cost?

120220 2003-02-11 17:20:00 Let us know the number on the FBT (Fly Back Transformer) and we might be able to find one for about $100 or you could ring Tesa www.tesa.co.nz or Trade Tech http: yourself and ask direct. E.ric (351)
120221 2003-02-11 18:49:00 I would have thought you could drop your dead monitor off at a recycling centre for safe disposle Millsie (3111)
120222 2003-02-11 19:42:00 Thanks for the info, but even if I can get the components cheap, I still can't fix it. And if I send it to somebody who can, it'll still all add-up.

But I'll gladly give it to anybody who wants it.

120224 2003-02-11 20:04:00 btong,

Where to dispose of a monitor depends entirely on what part of our islands the said monitor is residing in.

If you are in CHCH, i know of a man who collects dead monitors to mix and match for recycling/rebuilding purposes. He will pick up

120226 2003-02-11 20:33:00 You could call these guys (homepages.paradise.net.nz). Not sure if they take monitors though. honeylaser (814)
