2003-02-12 09:37:00 | One has to try to not be too rude I put the emphasis on try... I think in general that we will gather together (in gangs) and try to help where we can, and sometimes i/we can't for any number of reasons including having no idea what the answer, or perhaps what the question actually is. Hey we're all just human (sort of) so lets hope to get on :D .Clueless

2003-02-12 10:33:00 | What I have noticed since the new PressF1 has gone live is that there are some very negative people around. I will never forget reading this book years ago by a Williard Mottely by the name of Knock on any Door and in that it showed just how destructive negative thought is. | mikebartnz (21) | |
2003-02-12 19:59:00 | > it showed just how destructive > negative thought is. Chilling_Silence's favorite saying: If ignorance is bliss, then tourists must be in a state of euphoria! Make that into geek terms: If ignorance is bliss, I wanna be a n00b again! ;-)

2003-02-12 20:07:00 | I think this is a great place and yeah, the odd harsh word or being suggested that one has an IQ comparable to a rock does knock yer back a bit. Mostly ppl are terrific and the odd outburst is understandable, especially when one's job is being maligned or undermined. A few people seem to have the odd bad hair day but no one is consistently nasty. Great place, good :D s and lots 2 learn.

(pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) ;-) > > Great place, good :D s and lots 2 learn. And that I agree! Think about it, there's 30,000 threads. say 5,000 are irrelevant and non-PC related or OT threads. 25,000 times people have asked for help. Say an average call to a software helpdesk is an 0900 number charging at $2 per minute. you spend 5 minutes on the phone and thats $10. 25,000 people x $10 is $250,000 that's been saved by people all over NZ (And the world for that matter) Then there's when people have broken down their PC and would have otherwise had to take it in to the shop, say that costs $50-100 25,000 x 50 = $1.25 Million saved since June last year. I think that's pretty awesome guys :D Of course, this is all just hypothetical ;-) I hope that this is a place where new people will have a good experience, and come back again, even sharing their knowledge with others! Cheers Chilling_Silence |

2003-02-12 21:21:00 | well this may start a flame war ....so fingers crossed ;-) well i do remember when i first started posting at various forums. kinda scary at first, exspecially when you get a 1000 flaming replys. just what you need, a flame war on your first post :( forunatly this forum is VERY easy going (the amount of locked threads here is minor compared to a lot of forums i've been to). most people here seem to be a bit shy, thankfully we have now got a fair few regulars to make the place look busy ;-) most of the regulars run by the rule "we help you to help yourself". unfortunatly a lot of newbies seem to want a "quick fix" answer rather than sitting down a working out a prob. human nature i guess. mind you diagnosing a problem by email is damn hard and can take days if not weeks. those who post "my pc is broke" type questions, you know the ones, the ones with no info on whats wrong, what sort of pc or any details at all !! they usually get a 'short' answer. it may be rude but come on...how many people ring a garage 10,000km away and say"my cars broke please fix for free" and hang up ! you also may notice a few posters almost always ask a question before giving any real answer. why? to see if the poster is a fly by nighter. a bit of a pain spending hours finding an answer to a fault if the person has no intention of comeing back to read the answer. with any forum everything needs to be taken with a grain of salt. whats looks to be an insulting remark may not of been intended. things always look worse that it is in emails for some werid reason. the main tip for newbies is "Don't be shy!" forums take a bit of getting used to. just lurk in the background a bit and you'll pick up on the rules fairly quikly.
