120287 2003-02-11 20:25:00 What this policy is aimed at is disconnecting those who have a second phone line and treat their dial up connection as a permanant connection.

Such people are often doing this purely because they are too lasy to reconnect in the morning, and are a waste of resource. IHUG tosses them, in the morning they curse IHUG for disconnecting then and are a minute late for work because they have to reconnect before checking the mornings mail...

People wanting permanant connection should investigate cable/DSL. In most cases it is about the same price as good dial up account and a second phone line.

BTW in the few months i ran ultra, i possible got tossed of the network twice. I was connected 24/7

120288 2003-02-11 21:14:00 The gripe was meant to be a bit tounge in cheek, as I know the poilcy is there but the email to remind me feels like rubbing salt in the wound.

Would like to move to dsl, but the lines out here aren't scheduled for a upgrade for a long long time according to telecon and ihug ultra account is my only option.

I actually LIKE that sort of email!

I just think it is better to know that THEY tossed me off the network, than to wonder what the hell went wrong at my end.

For the same reasons i like ISPs that are brave enough to have a network statis page, such as ihugs MOTD page (www.ihug.co.nz). This is much better than ISPs that pretend that nothing ever goes wrong! (yeah right)
