| 120514 | 2003-02-12 04:32:00 | I have a Samsung CD-R/RW & DVD-ROM drive (three-in-one), model SM-308BE. It has never failed me before. In case it matters, I've flashed it so it cannot be region set, but this hasn't done anything bad to it, and I've done this on Windows 2000 Pro with the same model drive, and it works fine too. I'm using Windows XP Professional w/SP1 120 day trial, but it's never done anything like this before. Never. I'm not sure when, but somewhere between Friday, January 17 and Friday, February 7, it seemed to stop working. How do I know? Well, on Friday, January 24, I'm sure it read CDs. It must've worked Sunday 26/Monday 27 (CyberChuck might be able to back me up here, I can't really remember). Thursday, 30 January, I put in one of my CD-RWs to put some files on it, and it was read as blank. I put this down to another of DirectCDs occaisonal problems, and put in another CD. Same thing. Used my USB drive instead. Feb 7, it still doesn't read CDs. Feb 8, reads DVDs fine, as I can play back movies perfectly. It doesn't read Audio CDs. Feb 9, doesn't detect a true blank CD. All media I put in, excluding DVDs, are read as "File system: unknown", show no files, yet I can still open the drive as if it were a CD. The XP "analysing CD to popup autorun menu" flashes for about 30 seconds after putting a CD in. I haven't really bothered to do much about it, but I'm getting rather seriously worried about it now. Can anyone help me here? |
