2003-02-11 23:13:00 | Does anyone know how to change the default page not found, page that gets displayed in IE. Mine used to go to xtra's site not it's off to yahoo. Any ideas?

2003-02-11 23:27:00 | Are you saying you cannot get any web sites or is it just the homepage that gives the error. Just because the homepage address is incorrect and gives "Page not found" does not stop you going to another website. Change your homepage in Tools/Internet Options, type the address you want eg www.xtra.co.nz

2003-02-11 23:31:00 | Sorry. I'm getting sites fine. I'm also happy with my home page. It's the page that I get when I type, for example http://fadfkjdk.com ??

2003-02-11 23:52:00 | Perhaps try to search on your C: drive for the file named "dnserror.htm" and edit it to create your new Page Not Found default? I think that might work. Maybe. | honeylaser (814) | |
2003-02-12 00:52:00 | Have you installed kazaa or winMX or similar at all? I don't know how to change it... but I know that stuff like that makes it happen.

2003-02-12 00:54:00 | Looking for dnserror didn't work :( Yeah I've installed everything. It'll be one of those lovely apps that I've got on my machine. It's just annoying having yahoo poping up, I'd prefer it to be blank or google.

2003-02-12 00:58:00 | Switch to Phoenix and you just get an alert box saying Page not Found ;-) There is a wee proggy you can download that'll change it for you. Im pretty sure its part of a DLL file somewhere or something. If you "View Source" for the page it calls is dnserror[1] if thats any help. A quick HDD search comes up blank though. You may need to have a look on google for a proggy that'll do it for ya! Cheers Chilling_Silence

2003-02-12 01:05:00 | Yup, its embedded in the shdoclc.dll, so to get it back to normal, either nick it from another PC, or do a windows update/install service pack and that should update it and restore it. I cant find a changer for it on google though, so this may be your best option :-) Cheers Chilling_Silence

2003-02-12 10:01:00 | MS don't make it easy to change this setting as you would expect but if you just want to get back to Page cannot be displayed which I prefer anyway as usually you just want to correct the mistake you made with the url go to - Tools|Internet Options|Advanced Search options. This will control what IE does when you click on the Go button in the address bar. If you don't want to search, then check the option not to search from the address bar. This will cause Page can't be displayed rather than bringing up a serch site.
