120711 2003-02-12 23:29:00 The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'POP3.XTRA.CO.NZ', Server: 'pop3.xtra.co.nz', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Xtra's help site is okay and the Account adjustments seem to be okay, but every time you Send/Receive there is a very long pause, then the above screen appears.

The first such screen back in December had a Socket Error : 10061, now it's 10060.

Internet icon goes just fine.

Thanks for any help on OE 5.

120712 2003-02-12 23:53:00 Are you sure you are getting web sites OK, a lot of people say this but the site is coming from the browser memory.
Check several web sites and click on refresh to confirm they are loading.

Double click on the two little computers in the bottom right corner of your screen and confirm it is showing connected.
If you don't see the two little computers you are not connected with your modem.
If this is the case check the following

With Internet Explorer open select Tools/Internet Options
Click on Connections tab at the top
Make sure your ISP icon is showing as the default.(Hilight and click on set default)
Make sure "always dial my default connection" has the dot in it.
Click Apply and OK
Close IE and open your mail program and select send/receive

If you are connected OK does it start to download any messages, it may be getting stuck on one, get Xtra to delete the problem message. You may have a corrupted message in your outbox, delete anything from your outbox

120713 2003-02-13 01:53:00 Thanks Jim B, the Out Box does cause a lot of problems, e-mails quite often get hung up in here, you close Outlook and the little box telling you that you have unsent mail do you want to send now comes up, but then connecting again and they still stick in there.

>Make sure "always dial my default connection" has the dot in it.

Have put a dot in this , from the box above it.

Will re-boot and try this.

Thanks Jim B

120714 2003-02-13 01:56:00 Try re-creating a new account, as Ive come up with this many times, and re-creating an account seems to be the easiest way to fix it. Chilling_Silence (9)
120715 2003-02-13 22:35:00 Chilling Silence, thanks for that, will try the "My Connection Xtra" already set-up as a second account.

Since last December when this first appeared, e-mails have been going out in multiples, eg have 6 e-mails in the Out Box to send now, when the connection is made the screen tells me there are 12 to go, so have stopped it. Is this a virus ?.

Thanks again,

120716 2003-02-14 05:57:00 Check if your anti-virus is set to scan incoming and outgoing mail.
If it is, disable both and try again, clear you outbox first.
Send a test message addressed to yourself to confirm sending is OK and then send/receive to check you can download it to your inbox.

120717 2003-02-15 00:52:00 Jim B thanks for that, unticked the 2 e-mail boxes and forwarded myself an inward e-mail.

On sending it said there were 7 going out and on receiving it said 7 coming in but a box quickly appeared, stating "Partial Break".

The Accounts box for Break Apart Message shows 60kb, this must be tooooooo small surely !!!!!!!!!.

What should a reasonable message size be.

Thanks,

Les 3

Ps. If the size should be increased, do I revert back the AVG e-mail scan boxes.

120718 2003-02-15 01:11:00 My break apart box is not ticked - ie no break ups.
Bye

120719 2003-02-15 01:12:00 That is what is causing all those multiple messages.
Untick the box "break apart messages greater than xx" you don't ned that.
It is only used if you have trouble sending a very large message and you can send it in multiple parts this way.

As you can now send and receive OK I would leave mail scan disabled as this was probably causing the pop3 failure in your first post.
You anti-virus will still protect you, it just will not scan while downloading.
