120854 2003-02-13 06:38:00 Hi,
I'm looking for a cheap (free) app that will allow me to converse with my brother while we are online. I know netmeeting and AOL do this sort of thing, but I don't want a Micro$oft product. Does anyone know of any software (freeware....I'm a tight fisted user :) that will allow one to one voice communication? A very simple app would do fine....no bells and whistles need.
Thanks,
nzscratch.

120855 2003-02-13 08:00:00 Try Trillian. It is free, runs AIM, ICQ, IRC, MSN and Yahoo accounts all on one program. That may not sound "simple" to you but I find it brilliant. The only catch is that you and your brother will have to make an account with whichever messaging service you plan to use. I find ICQ to be the best.

Trillian was on a recent PC World magazine disc if you want to save yourself a download. I am not sure which issue though.

120856 2003-02-13 08:28:00 Hi Scratch; When you say audio comms, and mention to converse with your brother on line, do you mean to talk or type ?

The options Susan recommends I believe will be good for typing. Especially ICQ which I use often.

However, if you want to talk, using mics speakers or headphones, a good free program is:

120857 2003-02-13 08:34:00 Sorry, to clarify...I meant talking....ie: with a headset. I don't really want to have to connect to a "chat" network...just one on one talking with him. I'll have a look at paltalk. Cheers to you both for your reply. :) nzscratch (3161)
