120560 2003-02-12 05:33:00 dumb question 2907 - I stupidly typed in my log-on password for IE6 when it was already saved (who looks at the screen?). So it went in twice (ie the password box now has "passwordpassword). Consequently, it doesn't log on. Now, every time I hit the email button on my keyboard, the stupid 'puter tries to put in the new double password, so log on fails. How on earth can I clear this and restore my proper password? Just clearing the box and unchecking the "remember password" option doesn't work, as when I type in my password and select the save option, it reverts to the old option. Please help.
cheers,
andy

120561 2003-02-12 05:57:00 Oh yeah, windows xp home. - sorry andy (473)
120562 2003-02-12 09:51:00 I presume you are talking about the password for Outlook Express and not the password for your dialup connection.
MS have information about password not saving Here (support.microsoft.com)

120563 2003-02-12 19:32:00 Thanks Jim,
I must be getting stupider all the time.
No, I was meaning the password for my dial-up connection (yesterday was a really bad day)

120564 2003-02-12 19:54:00 Win XP has a problem with passwords, sometimes it just forgets your saved password but normally retyping it will work.
I suggest you just delete the connection and set up a new one, it is quite easy with the wizard.

Go to Start/ Control panels/Network connections
Right click on your ISP connection and Delete
Click on Make a New Connection to bring up the Wizard and click on Next at the bottom and select the following on each page.
Connect to the Internet
Set up my connection manually
Connect using a dialup modem
Type in ISP name
Type in ISP phone number
Type in username and password, leave all boxes ticked
Click finish and it is done.

120565 2003-02-12 21:15:00 Thanks again Jim, but it didn't work. I deleted the dialup connection to Paradise and set up a new one. I didn't call it Paradise either - just to be sure. I dialed in the first time okay, but XP has now reverted to the corrupt password! The strange thing is that Paradise only allows a 6 character alpha-numeric password, and this one that XP insists on saving is 16 characters long, so I don't think now that it was anything I've typed in, its just corrupted. I need to find where XP stores the password and try to fix it. Any ideas?

120566 2003-02-12 21:48:00 This is normal for XP it adds extra characters to your password for security reasons.
It does not mean your password is incorrect, just ignore it.
If it connects OK then your passsword must be corrrect.

120567 2003-02-12 22:27:00 Thanks Jim (again). I was getting a little frustrated with this and because I couldn't connect with the (seemingly) long password first time, I (stupidly) assumed that I wouldn't be able to when it re-appeared, but you are correct - it is a false lead, and all now functions correctly (whew!)
Cheers
