121180 2003-02-14 05:18:00 PII-233, inside a Digital (now Compaq, now HP...) LX case. The mobo has a weird set of jumpers that apparently allow up to a 533 to be used. I really only use it for playing mp3s, surfing, and Office. However I'd be interested to see how upgradeable it is. Mainly out of interest :). But could get some basic games to run if I had a 400+ (Will need to upgrade the on-board 2MB crap video as well...).

Question: say I get hold of a PII-400 or higher. The FSB on PII's above 350 is 100MHz. Mine is 66MHz. Will it automatically scale down? Can't see anything on the mobo regarding setting the FSB speed. Otherwise I suppose I'd be limited to 333. Hardly worth it.

BTW it runs Win 2000 really well (with 256MB PC-100 RAM), but I wouldn't dream of trying to put XP on. I personally don't really like XP, mainly for this reason.

Also can't find bugger all on the 'Net about it, www.digital.com didn't help. It's called a Digital 3500, about all I can find on the mobo.

121181 2003-02-14 05:29:00 You may have already found this:

h18000.www1.hp.com

It is a full description of the PC you describe. This page seems to suggest the highest chip you can use is a 333.

Is there any way in the bios to set FSB values?

Craig.

just some more info on your pc - dunno if it will help, but I can't find any reference to FSB settings on compaqs site or just generally on the web...

121183 2003-02-14 07:26:00 Hi Bardin,

Not really an answer to the FSB question, but I stumbled across this site (www.quickbase.com) that gives another CPU upgrade option.

Main problem I can see is that it would cost about NZ$250 and so it might be better to look at a new motherboard/CPU combo.

A thought anyway.
