2003-02-13 23:32:00 | Win 98, IE 5.5, Homepage is set to www.clear.net.nz Modem dials ISP Connected Homepage loads (www.clear.net.nz) We do not click on any hyperlinks or goto any other sites a window will randomly popup requesting a URL, which of course is an advert, than another window will pop up and another and another all requesting the exact same URL. (The Clear site does not have popup adverts) I have cleared the Cache, Temp files, history files, cookies. I have used Lavasoft Adware latest ver.6 to look for spyware files. I have installed Popup stopper to see if it will prevent the window from poping up but the window is persistent. I have closed all other programs running and have checked System Information to see what software is running and searched Registry files and MSCONFIG. The only way to stop it is to disable Active scripting on IE Options. It seems to be a script opening windows at random time intervals requesting a certain URL. Any suggestions on how to stop it .

2003-02-14 01:02:00 | What is the URL address as this might give someone a clue as to what to look for though I must admit you have done most of it already by running adaware, msconfig etc. | Gordon. (2217) | |
2003-02-14 01:29:00 | Like Gordon says, post the url because there are a number of sites that do this kind of thing and some of them "kindly" provide uninstallers . You could also try checking your BHOs (browser helper objects) - BHO Cop ( . pcmag . com/article2/0,4149,2023,00 . asp" target="_blank">www . pcmag . com) should help with that . There is a Homepage Hijacking FAQ on the forum (link top right of this page) which may be of some help, although this is a slightly different problem .

2003-02-14 20:40:00 | It looks like you have gator. Downloading and running Spybot (security.kolla.de) should hopefully fix that for you. | Susan B (19) | |
2003-03-06 21:43:00 | I finally got around to my sister- in laws place to fix her computer. The problem was a BHO, Adware and Spybot did not detect it so I downloaded and installed HijackThis (www.spywareinfo.com). The BHO file was C:\WINDOWS\IEXPLORR11.DLL. I used HijackThis to fix it everything works okay now. I believe she loaded it when she accidently installed Kazza and did not uninstall Kazza correctly. Thanks very much for your advice.
