121037 2003-02-13 23:04:00 A friend who I am helping with her computer sont me this email of a porblem with her computer:
"A fatal exception has occurred at 0028:C0011F77 in VXD VMM (01) + 00010F77 F.......press any key to continue........nothing happens the computer is dead so I switch off and start all over."

Can anyone, from these details point me in the right direction to fix the problem short of reinstalling Win95.
Thanks,

After that try some other RAM.

Reinstalling should be pretty well the first step in fixing fatal errors in W95. :D

It is a Good Idea to have a copy of the WIN95 directory of the CD as C:\WIN95. This makes the reinstall much easier and quicker. (To avoid having to set the location to the HD rather than the CD, search in REGEDIT for "D:\WIN95", and change it to "C:\WIN95". [assuming that the CD drive is D:]).

W95 has enough bit rot that it does need reinstalling reasonably often. Any time there is a fatal error is a good time to do it.

121042 2003-02-14 08:31:00 Had a similar sort of error a week or two back. Microsoft (support.microsoft.com) have a clear as mud help file on this. (Actually figured it out enough to fix my problem and Blue Screens haven't recurred). Good Luck. Heather P (163)
