120901 2003-02-14 07:04:00 Well ok, I take all that back. Can't be the problem since on the MS site is says:
NOTE: You should only install ICS on the computer that you use to connect to the Internet.

*sigh* Hope I haven't stuffed it all up just with that installation then!

120902 2003-02-14 07:10:00 Hmm, i think something is stuffed with the idg servers - i only typed the url once, and i know I didn't put the < /a> on the end of it!

As to the ICS, probably not - it just wont be set up properly. What sort of setup options did you have enabling the ICS server on winME or did it just turn on?

There should be some set up optins somewhere with similar settings to the ones I said above, as I had something like that when I ran ICS under win98...

120903 2003-02-14 07:12:00 heheheh I'd just found it ;o) Thanks anyway!

I'm jumping back a few steps now and will try uninstalling ICS and cards as you suggested earlier .

Thanks for your help :)

120904 2003-02-14 07:14:00 So everything is working now is it?? craig_b (2740)
120905 2003-02-14 07:36:00 Plain vanilla Win 98 is NOT able to run ICS . Win 98 SE IS able to . But since the Win 98 computer is the client it does not matter -- the Win ME computer, as the host, will be running the ICS .

If you found and read my thread on networking you will know that the only way I got internet sharing working on my Win 98 first edition and Win XP computers was by reformatting the Win 98 . I believe that the reformat wiped out conflicting settings and allowed it to start afresh .

I am not saying that is your only option because it is a big hassle but it was less stressful to me in the long run . Finding those conflicting settings would have taken me forever .

120906 2003-02-14 08:42:00 I've got ICS running here after a LOT of trouble (2 ME PCs) .

One thing is certain - you should only have ICS running on the host, NOT on the client .

The client should just detect and run, but I do remember going in to IE Explorer Tools, and running some option, but I don't remember if it made any difference . All the TCP/IP settings should be blank on the client .

Having got it going it's a wonderful tool, we have 4 computers here all hooked up nicely .

120908 2003-02-14 11:15:00 Well this has been wearing me out! It's just not happening. Host 'puter was due for a reformat anyway so that's what I've been up to this evening (gotta spend valentines day with the one I love, right? ;) ). SO at least now this computer has a nice fresh start.

As soon as I get A into G and find a way to save all the bits n bobs on the client 'puter, that'll be reformatted too. I hope networking will be easier this time around!!!

Thanks soooo much, all of you, for your help. Your patience and wise ideas are very much appreciated :o) Hopefully I dont have to come running back screaming for help tomorrow nite when I'm ready to start again!
