121568 2003-02-15 22:33:00 Hi - I've just bought a new Sony Digital Vid camera - I understand if I have a Firewire installed I can transfer and translate the analogue video info to digital format on my PC and edit / etc it?

At present can only do this easily with the memory stick short MPEGS.

How much should firewire cost me..any other comments welcomed.

121570 2003-02-15 22:56:00 How good a PC?

I have 512MB Mem, GRforce 4 with 128M - P4 -2.0G?

Firewaires are quite cheap and worth having by the look of it.

121571 2003-02-16 00:32:00 Your PC will be great.

you need lots of harddrive space (40GB+) and fast harddrive 7200 RPM.

One hour of video look was 12.5GB's Before MPEG encoding.

121572 2003-02-16 01:54:00 Studio DV capture card and Studio 8 software will do the digital side of what you ask.

Look at <imagingtechnology.co.nz> or <www.pinnacle/sys.uk>

121573 2003-02-16 02:00:00 Just re-read your post.

A 'Studio DV' capture card and 'Studio 8' software will do the digital side of what you ask.

No need to 'translate' the analogue, it is already in digital format from the Camcorder.

Look at <imagingtechnology.co.nz> or <www.pinnacle/sys.uk>
