121471 2003-02-15 06:20:00 I tried to load Brittanica on our computer and it wouldn't work, and came up with a message "Cannot find CTL3D.DDL. Windows needs this file to run M:\" Can anyone tell me what I should do about this? I tried a search for the file but with no joy. I should add that the CD drive (M) has not been working properly for some time and the CD tray will only open if I turn the computer off then on again. I have been able to load other computer games using the CD drive though michele (2124)
121472 2003-02-15 07:11:00 I presume you mean ctl3d.dll. This is a Windows file. What version of windows are you running? You might be able to get a copy off the internet (mine is only 27kb) but the it is probably better to reinstall Windows as other dll's may be missing to. First check the recycle bin as someone may have accidentally deleted it. Dolby Digital (160)
121473 2003-02-15 07:25:00 thanks for the reply - I do mean the file you mentioned but I don't understand what you mean by downloading from the internet. What am I downloading and how? I'm a bit of a computer novice... do you mind explaining further? michele (2124)
121474 2003-02-15 08:30:00 I think what you really need to do first Michele, is to get a reliable working CD drive, else you will be in endless trouble.
You probably need to take your comp in to a reputable shop and get a new one fitted.

Then you have the option to extract the missing or deleted dll file from your Windows installation CD. You really need to post more details of which windows version you are using, whether you have an full windows install CD, or just a recovery CD, and/or whether you have a partition on your hard drive with the install/recovery files.

Then I think PF1 will be able to help a bit more :)
