121929 2003-02-17 07:35:00 A friend's computer is running windows98 and for many months has been telling her that it can't find a file called bjscan.dll an she has to OK this segment before it completes its start up.
1/ Can I find this files anywhere? (A google search pointed me to www.castleindustries.org - but that was as far as I got!)
2/ If I find it where do I put it?
3/ Failing the above - can I stop her computer from asking for it? - perhaps a registry thing (- I'm sort of OK with this as long as the instructions are clear.)
4/ Her computer continues to work fine with out me fiddling with it - should I just leave it alone?

Does your friend have a Canon scanner or possibly printer? If so, try deleting it via the add/remove programs section in control panel.

If she does have one, delete and reinstall. Alternatively you could look on the install disks for the file. It will probably appear as bjscan.dl_.

If you find it and download it off the net you can try putting it in directory that the software is running from. e.g. C:\Program Files\BJScan\ (if that's what it is?). If that doesn't work you could try C:\Window.

To stop it you could just uninstall the software as long as it's not the software being used.

The message gets annoying but you'll get use to it. I'd probably remove it and hope that in the process you didn't create more problems. I don't usually work on other peoples computers unless they are comfortable with what I'm doing.

121932 2003-02-17 10:09:00 Hello,

1. As stated try locating new drivers for the same model
2. Uninstall the old drivers upon this proving successfull
3. Restart and see if the dll is still requested.
4. if it is not install new drivers
5. If it is still requested try the following:

a. Searching the registry for the file to see if it helps with where it points to

Start > run > Regedit

Please do not change anything there or if you do make a registry backup

b. Searching my computer for containing text then the filename

c. It maybe a windows driver which you can check by:

insert the Relevant windows Disc in the CD Drive [if applicable] and search for containing text then the filename again

Note there is also an extract command but the method above will suffice for now.

d. If you have any additional drivers on seperate disks or Discs please search those also.

e. Failing this let me know and i might be able to offer additional support via TightVNC or other methods {tightVNC allowing me to check rather quickly]
