121900 2003-02-17 06:13:00 You could password protect your files, but I really wouldn't recommend that. More often than not, people forget the passwords and can't access them. You can get to that under the Save As window, Click the tools button and choose security options.

You would be better off changing the access rights to a folder. I am pretty sure you can do that in XP, but it might depend on whether you use Home or Pro edition. Someone else might be able to provide details (my XP box is sort of sleeping).
robo.
PS not dead, just sleeping.

121901 2003-02-17 06:20:00 Hi Grums, i just checked on my system xp pro though, anyway, What have you got your setting at for - Use simple file sharing? - in explorer, tools - folder options - view tab - then under Advanced Settings - Is simple file sharing ticked? I have tried for you with it ticked - and i get the accessible box for my docs (same place as you) - but with it not ticked it changes to a different layout (however if i remember rightly this is an xp pro feature). Anyway i just thought it may be worth trying/checking that setting first to see if it gives you an accessible box under sharing tab. However i do remember somebody else posting a prob along these lines, and it wasn't that simple, so i will have a search and see if i can see it. :-) J ZEP (336)
121902 2003-02-17 06:21:00 Select and right click the folder.

Select the Security tab

Either remove all users except the one permitted to access the folder (ensure that user has Full Control)
or

Select each user in turn and remove permissions that each user has.

Do at your own risk since your wants appear to exceed your knowledge.

Only works if you have turned off "Use Simple File Sharing"
and Only works under XP Pro from memory.
