121717 2003-02-16 10:51:00 Everytime when i start my XP, I have to wait for about 30 seconds before i can double click on my dial-up network or My network place, otherwise my XP will not take respond on it. Anyone know what is the problem? I am using the ihug ultra connection and a network card connect to other pc.
My other pc doesn't give me this problem even it have the network card installed.

121718 2003-02-16 11:04:00 well one thing to check is if there is an ip addy for the ihug card and network card. tweak'e (174)
121719 2003-02-16 22:55:00 No, ihug doesn't provide any IP for us. I disable the network card, but the problem still there. jtcc (3183)
121720 2003-02-17 00:11:00 Not unusual - look at your hard disk activity light, it will likely always be on at this time.

Its often virus checking or indexing files, creating restore points etc.

121721 2003-02-17 11:26:00 Hello,

Apparently according to this program:
www.totalidea.de

it appears windows xp, possibly other versions, may take some time to build a list or perhaps index of the network. I am not altogether sure of the specifics. Supposedly you can research it from here. But when i did turn on a feature in this program to speed up browsing on the LAN it did reduce the delay quite a bit

121722 2003-02-27 00:45:00 No, the harddisk light is not active at all. The whole pc looks died. I can't do anything besides wait for the time pass. jtcc (3183)

for the ihug card use ip 10.10.10.1 subnet 255.255.255.0 (or any other dummy ip that dosn't conflict with your network)

without a ip addy you will get a 10-20 sec delay that makes your pc look like its dead.
