121756 2003-02-17 03:17:00 ok in that case you need to scrap it and start again.
Make a boot disk (rescue disk)
restart your computer with this disk then at the dos prompt type fdisk
it will probably ask you if you want to enable large disk support. Say yes to that.
You will then be in fdisk. what most likely happened was that this large disk support was not enabled on your last partioning.
You will need to partion he drive as 1 partion of 8gigs. (primary partion)
you can break it into smaller partions (having several drives) but it increases the complexity. For more information refer to the FAQ's

121759 2003-02-17 11:04:00 Hello,

I would like to note some things:

Generally these are some limits which i am aware of although i am no tutor on the subject:

500Ish Meg Limit:
LBA needs to be enabled

2000Ish Meg limit
Software limitation of vfat/fat16 [VFAT is afaik fat16 + Long filenames]

8GB limit:
int13h extension to the bios to overcome this.

I guess at a basic level check the size of the drive. If when you partition it the full space is not available between all partitions/space listings then consider it may be a hard drive, BIOS, or software limit

I am not sure if this encompasses everything but so far it has been what i have come across.

Note that if LBA was not enabled for the drive AFAIK it would not have been around 2GB which may indicate a software limitation / Software File system limitation

RE: Fat16/32 Convert

Although this may be possible with certain version of windows it will not afaik allow you to resize the partition to make the existing partition take up the full space of the volume.

For a commercial program which can convert between formats, plus resize partitions, and a few other features consider Power Quests Partition Magic which is recognised and reasonably well respected from instances indicated to me.

For freeware, shareware or other versions try for e.g. http://www.zeleps.com/ which i located from www.dmoz.org although note in this case finding decent free solutions i have found for myself atleast to not as good as the commercial products.
