122061 2003-02-17 21:28:00 I have Office XP Pro with Frontpage and Windows XP.

Every so often when I open up WordXp or some other part of the office suite, a box comes up and trys to make me put the office cd back in the drive so it can install some feature that is missing.

I can either cancel it, and then it keeps opening, or I can put the cd in and let it install the feature that it so desperately needs. Do you know what that 'feature' is? - 2 icons on the start menu (Open office Document, New Office Document) and it also makes a MS Office program group which has some other shortcuts in it.

How annoying! I like my start menu, nice and tidy and I don't want these shortcuts on it, but officeXp forces me to have them there.

Somebody please help me out so it wont keep requesting me to put the cd back in the drive etc

122063 2003-02-17 22:04:00 I would re-install.

When re-installing, if you dont want it, you can click it and select something such as "never install" or some option, rather than what is likely already chosen "Install on demand" or similar.

Try that and see if it helps ;-)

Cheers

122064 2003-02-17 22:05:00 original. Office just doesnt like me removing their shortcuts from the start menu PoWa (203)
122065 2003-02-17 22:06:00 Reinstall as Chilling has said... select "Complete" install when installing again... that'll stop everything from asking to be installed from CD...

Not neccesarily Complete, but you can click on the little box next to the part of office (When doing Custom Install) and select "Not Available" or something simliar, which basically tells it you never want it installed ;-)

122067 2003-02-17 22:49:00 By re-installing...you don't mean I have to uninstall everything, and then install from scratch do you? (50min task)

Is there a quicker way ;)
PoWa (203)
122068 2003-02-17 22:53:00 Well... not really... if you want to try the Repair option, you are more than welcome to, but if it doesn't work then you will need to reinstall anyway... so possible 1 hr and 40 min if you get it wrong.

122069 2003-02-18 04:22:00 Dont un-install.

If you can, install 1 little extra proggy and that'll be fine :D

122070 2003-02-18 22:22:00 When I did the re-instalation, I either selected 'Run All from my Computer' for everything I wanted, and if I didn't want a particular part of a program I selected 'Not Available'

I have a bad feeling that the problem will still continue... is there no setting in the program options or anything that tells it to stop requesting stuff from the cds?
