2003-02-17 20:20:00 | My normally stable system has become unstable with a mix of BSODs and the system freezing. Exception messages include the following: At 0028: C0004A64 in VXD VMM(01) + 00003A64 At 0028: C00046A0 in VXD VMM(01) + 000036A0 FSTOPPW Error 11 11972 At 0028: C0002D4A in VXD VMM(01) + 00001D4A called from 0028:C0003B5A in VXD VMM(01) + 00002B5A 0028:000000009 Windows 0137:BFF9A07C IEXPLORE invalid page fault in module GDI.exe at 0001: 0000664d I have a Pentium 166MX 32Mb ram running Windows 95 I have two hard drives 1 and 2 Mb I have one CDR\RW set up as a master using the secondary IDE connector All went well until tried to install my old CDROM as a slave on the secondary IDE connector. Nero would not see the CDR\RW so I took the CDROM Out. I also Defragged the C Drive. Subsequently Nero wanted to be and was removed and reinstalled. All seemed to working OK until I put the case back on . I dont appear to have any hardware conflicts. I have run a virus check using up to date virus signature files. Help Graeme

2003-02-17 21:02:00 | OK VMM stands for Virtual Memory Manager. This is hard disk space that pretends to be RAM. Because you use this alot (as you only have 32MB of RAM) its a more of a possibility for errors to occur. Off the top of my head, your win386.swp could be corrupt this is the pagefile where this VMM originates from. You could be out of disk space, Your present settings for VMM are not ideal These settings can be found by right clicking on "My computer" going to properties and going along the tabs. More information can be found in the FAQ's

2003-02-17 22:07:00 | Clueless, Having hunted Google a week or so back for a similar error I can assure you that the error needs abbreviating to find anything. Fortunately one of my abbrevations led here (support.microsoft.com). A site that was bookmarked as it was so darn difficult to find! Microsoft's guide to what blue screen error's mean.

2003-02-24 06:42:00 | Success... I took the CDR\RW out and reinstalled my old faithfull 8x CDROM and everything seems to be working OK again. It appears that it may be time to upgrade if I want to be able to burn CD's. Thanks for your help.

2003-02-24 08:10:00 | Yes that would explain it, the CDRW uses RAM/VMM to move the info it grabs off the CD, if things aren't in order its very easy to run into troubles. THis would also cause some protection faults that you experienced | roofus (483) | |
