| 121938 | 2003-02-17 08:46:00 | I tried out this nifty piece of software and thought I might give you fellow Pf1'ers a review of it, just in case youve been thinking of downloading :-) Software: NeroNet Okay, here's what I thought: I was at first a bit skeptical about burning CD's over a network, how well it would work etc. but I figured "Heck, Im now on dial-up, Im downloading the newest Nero (The older Demo version I had didnt support my writer, I was installing it for use in XP. I've lost my retail CD), so while Im at it, why not add an extra 4 megs and make it a 18 meg download" ;-) Once it had downloaded (NeroNet finished first), I installed it, and it said something about needing Nero 5.5.10.7b client or newer.. I didnt really take much notice, I was getting the most recent version :D I finished install and skimmed the readme at the end. Bit of a mistake, I re-installed and re-read it later. Anyways, it basically just sits in your tray and waits for instructions from over the LAN. You cant burn CD's from the host PC while its running, but it only takes about 30 seconds tops to shut it down. You have to setup users, all this and monitoring is done from within a web interface. This is great, only the lower frame doesnt work in phoenix. Its fine in IE 6 though :-) From within this web console, you create users (To login with from the client end) and monitor what's going on with the burning (Nothing appears on screen as it normally would, allowing you to continue with your other day-to-day work on the host :D) Setup from the client PC was easy. Im now glad to say that I can watch DVD's (Ive got a DVD actually in the PC) and burn CD's (Using NeroNet) from my new PC :D Simply install Nero Burning ROM and check something in the preferences (It tells you during the NeroNet install) and you're all set. I burnt an audio CD and a Data CD no sweat. Basically it takes what you want to burn and makes an NRG image of it (To my understanding), transfers it across, puts your burn in the queue (If there is one..) and then burns :D Nice and easy. I think that's about it. Lemme know what you guys think, of NeroNet and the review. If you like it, I might make something like this a little more regular if I try a new program and like it and stuff. BTW - If you downloaded Nero Burning ROM 5.5.10.7 (now 7a), then there is a problem in the installer or something, and they advise you re-download it. Another BTW - This is Beta 1, but is VERY good. Un-installation was a breeze too (Just had to try it out), but its back on my PC now, and its here to stay! Cheers Chilling_Silence |

| 121944 | 2003-02-17 22:27:00 | BTW - I can see this being excellent for a corporate environment as it doesnt interrupt the person with the CD-R/W drive. Just phone them up and ask them to pop in a CD-R for ya and you're set, much better than hogging their PC for the 10 or so minutes it take to burn a CD! Note to Karl Martin: Perhaps this would be something good to look into? You have Nero, all you'd need is the latest version, + the NERONET |
