2003-02-18 22:26:00 | I would have just selected "Run all from PC" ... but that's just me. Lo.

2003-02-18 23:13:00 | If you select 'Run all from my PC' it enables the office assistant and other completely useless applications on the cd, which would ad another 100mb to the insallation. Its better to be selective when installing Microsoft Progs. ;) | PoWa (203) | |
2003-02-19 05:38:00 | Well I guess then if you're going to be selective about what you install, you are just going to have to put up with it trying to install diff features etc. I can see where you're coming from with trying to save space and what have you... but if you're running Office XP, I'm guessing you've got a pretty high spec PC? If so, what's another 100mb on hard drives 20gb and over? ;) Lo.

2003-02-27 01:04:00 | I'm afraid nothing that has been said here has worked. When I delete the shortcut icons from my start menu, the next time I open wordXp or something, it will try and install the feature (more shortcut icons on my start menu) I have had to resort to going into advanced properties of the start menu and clicking "hide" on the icons I don't want to see. At least it makes the start menu tidier, but this only solves the symptoms, not the actual problem. Any more ideas anyone? What about an idea from someone who writes in the PCWorld Magazine?

2003-02-27 01:30:00 | ..And you've done a 'Complete' install of everything? Got me stumped?!

2003-02-27 02:52:00 | I do not have any of the problems you are describing with my Office XP and I chose to custom install what features I wanted. Man, it must be driving you up the wall! :-( As far as the shortcuts on the Start menu are concerned, I have the Win XP style Start menu and created a Programs folder within the All Programs folder where I move all the folders to when a program is installed. Within the All Programs folder there is another folder called Apps for the shortcuts to the programs themselves. The Word, Excel and Publisher shortcuts are on their own (ie not within a folder) in the All Programs folder. I know that sounds horribly confusing but the gist of it is that my Office icons behave themselves and never move or replicate themselves. If it is a problem for you and you do not want your Start menu similar to mine maybe you could try TweakUI for Win XP as there is a setting to control what goes on your Start menu's Most Frequently Used Programs list. That may or may not have an effect on what is happening on your PC.

2003-02-27 06:10:00 | I use the classic start menu, I find the xp start menu a dog. :) And fine, If I do a full reinstall...can I be selective or do I -HAVE- to do a complete install (Install everything from clippy to frontpage). I have done a selective install a few times, well before I posted here. Still same situation. I was wary of installing everything because I do not want outlook, access or frontpage. I just want word, powerpt, excel.

2003-02-27 06:53:00 | Yes, looks like you'll have to install EVERYTHING... BTW, not any of my business, but sounds awfully like a 'non-original' Office product you have. I know that the dodgy versions all have a few funny features which include what you've described... Lo.
