The first reply is more often along the lines of "What do you mean by that?", and often the next few are along the lines of "try this" or "have a look here" Susan Bs networking thread was a classic example where there were pages of replies, and eventually the solution was Susan herself saying "I reformatted the 98 machine!" In some ways it could be said that that question was never answered. However i agree that lenth of thread might be a usefull search criteria, but it may also cause confusion. .Clueless |

| 122031 | 2003-02-17 22:51:00 | Actually I doubt if adding a resolved button would help - you'd end up with hundreds of "unresolved" problems. eg General discussions that run out of steam, the posts saying "thanks, I'll go try this... sometime", the posts we never hear back on - the "black hole" of a help board, different viewpoints that are combined to give the right result, the Tips which don't need an answer, the OT humour which lurks for a day or two then disappears... |

There are a number of people like me who loiter around here who generally pick up postings which have not been answered. ;-) Even if I don't have a useful suggestion to give, the bumping up will usually bring it to the attention of someone who has. I think the only one at the moment is a "homework", which I might respond to today, when I get that far down the list. |
