122425 2003-02-19 08:59:00 I have recently had built a new cpu with W98 installed.
After I have turned on the computer and used it for 3 to 5 minutes it goes into the blue screen and has messages about fatal exceptions OE. They are not the same every time. If I re-boot with ctrl/alt/del it then works fine. Does anyone have a simple solution for this problem that I may be able to do myself. Thanks

122427 2003-02-19 19:16:00 its infact 0E not OE
these are memory errors, can be by a programme using incorrect memmory addresses or your RAM not configured correctly or your virtual memmory not configured correctly.
But unless you give more details we won't be able to help.
We need hardware specs, we also need to know what you are loading up at startup.
Are these 0E errors causing a fault in a certain app?

122430 2003-02-20 03:22:00 check out that link i gave.
next time it happens write down every word then post it back here. because usually it will say
"OE has caused an exception at xxx:00xxxx in ????(??) bla bla bla"
some of us more experienced members can decipher what it means and help you out.
as far as the progs you have loaded, the only one looking dodgy to me is hotbar

122431 2003-02-20 05:00:00 I always thought blue screen errors were generated by the computer genie merely to confuse (which person in their right mind would produce a seemingly meaningless string of random letters and numbers as the reason for an error?).

A week or so back I finally set out to find if there was a pattern behind them. I came across the following at Microsoft (support.microsoft.com)

Incidentally, computers use base 16 rather than base 10.
Base 10 goes 1,2,3....9,10,11....
Base 16 goes 0,1,2,3....9,A,B,C,D,E,F,10,11...19,1A...
(This explains Cs and the like sneaking into numbers. They are used as numbers)

122433 2003-02-20 19:10:00 For there to be so many errors in so many apps will generally mean that your RAM is misconfigured or is faulty.
Hopefully tweake replies back here and can put more light on it, He's one of the most experienced members on this board.
this VxD is a "virtual device driver" which are loaded as windows starts, they have memmory address's that they use and if the memmory isn't working right then obviously the driver won't work right. And I believe this is the case with you.

From here it looks like the answer to that question is No .

> I have recently had built a new cpu with W98 installed .

My advice is that since you have a computer that is NOT working properly you should return it to where you got it from and tell them to fix it . They should not charge you anything to put it right . If you start fiddling with it yourself they would have a good excuse to turn around and say it was your fault and therefore not covered by their "warranty" .

Take it back now .
