122376 2003-02-19 04:27:00 Hello,
I have been trying to make a family website for pics and news and stuff so have opted for the free 'angelfire' website to host it. I have 2 banner/ad options, 1) to display banner on every page or 2) have a pop up ad. I have chosen the 2nd option as it gives more space for my design and also as some pages use frames it looks ugly with the banner on every frame. While playing around with it I noticed that the 'pop up' occurred every time I loaded the page (I expected that ) and as long as I left the pop up in the background then that would be the only intrusion on my site. If I were to close the pop up and then click on a link from my site then the pop up would occur again. so.......................

What if I were to put a cookie on my site so that when someone views the site once, gets the pop up then if that pop up is closed the cookie would *fool* the pop up from coming back again. Not sure if this is possible and not even sure what a cookie actually does but if it is possible then I might explore it further.

hope this makes sense.

cheers
sam m

122377 2003-02-19 07:40:00 Why not just create a website from www.freewebs.com (no ads) and where the tracker code is inserted incase it in <noscript></noscript>

There were ways around free hosting ads but they have pretty much fixed the more common ways of stopping ads. I use to stop the 50megs.com popup from appearing by using the <noscript> tag but they have now fixed it.
