122334 2003-02-19 00:57:00 I am looking after a few dell optiplex 150's (win98se 64Mb Ram) and when set up to print to a hp 845c (USB) the printer will take up to 20 mins to print a page. On another computer (not a Dell) with exactly the same driver (ver 4.1) cable and printer settings the printer will print the same page in under a minute. Anyone out there able to enlighten me on this topic ? Kwakers (1647)
122335 2003-02-19 01:54:00 Hi Kwakers

Do you mean that the printer operates very slowly, or it takes 20 minutes for the printing to start?

Cheers

122337 2003-02-19 08:05:00 Thanks for the reply guys, the computer / printer situation is common on all the Dells, 20 of them in the School (all the same model etc), we have an hp 840 printing sweetly using the ECP printer port, it only seems to be a problem thru USB (the 845c only has USB) the computers in question will download pictures from a camera with no problems using the same USB port.
The printer will print for two or three seconds then waits for about thirty seconds etc until the page is printed, the computer HDD shows no abnormal activity at any stage and the printer shows activity on its data led throughout the print job.
The drives are under quarter full and are schedule to defragment every week.
I get the feeling that this is just one of those incompatible situations here!! I might try more RAM to see if this helps.

122338 2003-02-19 09:30:00 If you go to www.hp.com
cl HP software/drivers, enter deskjet 845c, cl Win 98, there is a download "deskjet 845c printer software/driver home users : USB, date 2002-04-04 rev 4.3, 17.52 MB"
Suggest backup, uninstal, instal above download.

122339 2003-02-20 01:59:00 Try disabling the LPT printer port in the BIOS setup. It seems that some machines have "refused" to work at all with USB printers if there is a "real" printer port there. Maybe this is a less severe case. Graham L (2)
