1329797 2013-02-25 04:59:00 As I am shortly to move house, I am looking to buy a new TV which will allow me to browse the Net.... Does this work well? Recommendations? TIA Bryden Bryden (4161)
1329798 2013-02-25 20:14:00 From my limited experience with Samsung TVs, I wouldn't bother trying to do anything on the net on your TV.

For the most part, it's just plain slow and painful. You either have to use the remote control to enter the URL or (if you're lucky) you can get an app for your phone/tablet that will let you use it as a remote.

Much better option is to just plug in a HDD or USB stick with whatever you want to watch on it or set up a NAS in the house.

1329799 2013-02-25 21:08:00 You could get an android TV box and plug that into the TV through HDMI.
They have a few advantages, they are cheaper than getting the 'smart TV' I think.
They can use a wireless keyboard and mouse and you are not locked into the TV manufacturers software.
Here is an example taken from TradeMe (I am not endorsing any in particular)

1329800 2013-02-25 22:46:00 Yeah get something with a real browser, and support for a mouse and keyboard.

Maybe even use your PC and get a monitor with inbuilt TV tuner.

Or get a digital tuner box with HDMI and plug it into your monitor. Most monitors have 2 inputs now. Use one for the PC and one for the tuner...

1329801 2013-02-26 03:22:00 Thanks for the advice.... Part of the idea of browsing using the TV is that I can curl up on a comfy chair, I don't want to sit at my office desk using my computer monitor. If I buy an android TV box and plug it into the TV, with a mouse and keyboard, will that effectively set the TV up so I can visit any sites etc. on the Net? Is the Android box better than an Apple box? I have seen the latter advertised... TIA Bryden Bryden (4161)
1329802 2013-02-26 04:32:00 Works fine from our LG TV coz we have the "Magic Remote" which works a lot like a Wii Remote. It allows you to point at the screen, click etc

Also, works with a USB Wireless keyboard too :D Though you don't *have* to have a keyboard plugged in, the onscreen stuff is a lot faster thanks to the remote.

Even the Skype setup works well.

Believe this is what we have: www.jbhifi.co.nz

1329803 2013-02-26 04:47:00 Wow, that looks great.... I am an "innocent abroad" - magic remote? I guess, given your expertise, you set up your own system.... Will places like JB Hifi do that for me, if I buy from them? Bryden (4161)
1329804 2013-02-26 04:48:00 Android or iThing it is your choice.
Android will allow that, dunno about i(insert capital)whatever.

1329805 2013-02-26 04:49:00 Woops - sorry, reading further I see it comes with the TV.... Bryden (4161)
1329806 2013-02-26 04:53:00 Yeah the remote comes with some models of LG TVs.
They can do in-home installs for a small fee too, my cousin bought same one but she had them install it :)
