1304869 2012-10-03 04:48:00 The vodafone one must be old stock as it has Android 2.3 whereas the XT one has Android 4.0

1304870 2012-10-03 05:37:00 The vodafone one will only work on the 2degrees/voda network whereas the XT one will only work on the XT or skinny network. Nick G (16709)
1304871 2012-10-03 09:19:00 NZ Handsets do not come carrier locked and luckily the Galaxy S2 (unlike the S1) came with only a single international variant + all the US variants and an i9100G variant (which is the same as an i9100 except with NFC! Yay!) The S1 Came with US versions (x3) The i9000 and the i9000 /A/B/G/L/M/T both M,T and L worked on 850MHz WCDMA (Telecom NZ freq) the others all had small modifications such as no front camera, a TV tuner in the portuguese one etc etc. The S3 is even better. US models + the rest of the world. They really should just have ONE Top galaxy ONE Mid price phone and ONE cheap little runner NOT called the Galaxy 5 or whatnot which polluted the brand identity.

Anyway, end Samsung rant,

SO anyway, That means (unless I'm wrong) that the Voda one should work top notch. Of course if you use the stock ROM you will have vodafone branding and may have to set up the APN's etc to get 3G data but you shouldn't be limited by frequency. IF that is the case (i'll double check) then I'd flash a custom ROM to the sucker. Right now I'm using AOKP Preview 5.1, really stable and a great clean vanilla ROM. Not hugely performance tweeked as far as I can tell but it does a good job. My fav bit is the fact that it is stock and pretty much as "Nexus" as possible. I do prefer nova launcher though since the dock thingy at the bottom is scrollable meaning I have Messaging:Open app drawer:Browser ---sweep left---> Contacts:Phone etc etc keeps things nice and tidy.

I'll get back about that Voda one

1304872 2012-10-03 09:32:00 Well vodafone are keeping mum on it, no model number on their site and it only lists the GSM freq's. According to ye olde faithful wikipedia there are a lot more S2 variants than I thought. The good thing is they are all regional (eg US/Chinese models) that shouldn't be a problem. Other good thing is the aussie version apparently due to better software performs better, so if it's aussie, on ya mate. Chuck another shrimp on the barbie. See here for full list en.wikipedia.org

So I'd say it's safe to buy. Not a bad price either, It would pay to try one out in the store just in case but unless voda have disabled the 3G bands in the firmware I really see no reason why it shouldn't work. When you test it have a peek at the model. If it says i9100 and doesn't work it will be fixable with a new ROM. If it says anything else it might not be so forward.

If you do buy it, please go into the voda store and install your telecom card in the shop :D Oh and when you said "are these the same" I did assume you wanted to know if it worked on telecom.... because if that's not what you meant, I have made a genuine fool's paragraph for everyone :p

1304874 2012-10-03 21:46:00 on the vodafone site about the S2 i found this
www.vodafone.co.nz
says the frequencies it works on are
850/900/1800/1900

telecom XT uses the 2100Mhz however for urban centres

whilst i was on the vodafone site looking at the s2, the chat help thing popper up, so i asked if the vodafone s2 will work on telecom or 2d??, they said

All our phones are unlocked to use on any network,

You need to call Technical Support to see what Networks the phone will work on, then call the provider you are going to be using to see if they are on that network to make sure the phone will be OK to use.

Technical support is 0800 921 021, sorry i mean you have to check the Frequencies/Network.

1304875 2012-10-03 23:07:00 Yeah but they are the GSM freq's. My i9000 used GSM850 but not telecom's WCDMA

Telecom use 850/2100MHz for their Freq's
