1304465 2012-10-02 22:40:00 CD drives for computers didn't first appear for at least 10 years after the cd player came out. I remember in the mid 90s a Hi Fi shop here in Napier skiteing how they were able to make there own music cds with this new cd copier they had.

1304466 2012-10-04 02:26:00 I will miss CD's when they are no longer available since the alternative is crap MP3 format which is just plain stupid what with the low cost of storage and decent download speeds why can no one offer a .flac service?

I have never bought music as an MP3 and I refuse too due to it's crap quality

MP3 doesnt have to be bad quality, most people would never be able to tell the difference between a descent MP3,CD or vinyl

You do get the odd CD where the quality is really bad, audible distortion (audible on a good system)
Ive had a few like that, there was a discussion about this issue in the NZ Hi-Fi forum. Evidently it can & does happen(not very often though)
Its not the recording, as the same bands greatest hits CD sound 100% fine, the same songs on my original CD was distorted

I sold my 1st CD player, not long after they came out, couldnt get any good bands/albums on CD in NZ. At that time only some awefull top40 pop was out on CD in NZ

1304468 2012-10-05 04:30:00 Think first few CD's were greatest hits of the stones, queen, around 85 (or bit later). Also CD's and compilations later from a few kiwi bands like Spelling Mistakes, Toy Love, Screaming Meemee's, Pink flamingo's, Marching Girls, The swingers, and heaps more - all of whom I use to go to their concerts. Often played at main street rock club, amongst others (www.elsewhere.co.nz) in AK City, then visit Groovy Records, (www.realgroovy.co.nz) where we use to buy dozens of CD's, and tapes, etc.

We brought one of them twin casette/cd Ghetto blasters for around $800 I think, down from about $1000 a year earlier, since easy to move/swap music between party locations. Then came CD ROM's, CD-Video, Writers, and MP3's, and of course file sharing. Still remember and used CD standards/procedures like Mount Rainer, Red Book, then the ISO's. Then Nero Express...

I know it doesn't unfortunately iTunes and other online stores won't use a better bit rate or compression tool so until they do I won't be buying online

1304470 2012-10-06 08:55:00 I used to think mp3's at 128 or 192 were great.
Until I played them in a large room and they seemed very flat and lifeless compared to a proper CD.

That is why we need FLAC.

And yes that is why I don't buy any music online.

And even if you buy it "its not yours!"
