1303855 2012-09-29 08:57:00 Economic growth is being hidden by the mega wealth that is being created by the few mega capitalists.

They are keeping all the profits, and the average man is seeing diminishing returns for his efforts. Once it hits a crisis point and these greedy people begin to fear for their lives, or for their next meal, only then they will let the purse strings loose and allow Joe Average to live profitably from his labours.

.

Not really Paul. It is arguable the rich are getting richer and society would benefit if the wealth was more widely spread.

Even so the average person in the developed nations and in the developing nations (China, India, South America etc) is also getting richer. Simply look at the vast range of foods available in our supermarkets today. The cafes, bars shops etc. None of them would exist without customers. My parents who were children in the Depression are bewildered at how wealthy our society has become.

In the developing nations, the governments are now dealing with growing internal economies which didn't exist a generation ago. A middle class is developing and peoples lives are far better. They own cellphones, motor scooters, computers, food, education, etc. China is encouraging its citizens to buy goods.

If these were all paid off would we still be wealthy.

No such recourse in the depression, mind you back then money was money; we adhered to a "gold standard", money in circulation equated to gold held in the Reserve Bank.

Today it just kept getting printed as in the US.

Just hope the creditors' don't call in their monies.

Lurking.

1303859 2012-09-29 20:26:00 So like us KarameaDave has no debt and yet Cic seems to be promoting debt as the way to live. I live the way my parents did and my Grandparents if I haven't got the money I don't buy it until I do the only exception was our house which we saved extra hard for and paid off within 5 years gary67 (56)
1303860 2012-09-29 20:35:00 When the economy is said to be doing well, it does so at the cost of those being economised. When it does badly it tends to most negatively affect - guess who.
The ridiculous posturing to this token of exchange is akin to worshiping the scoreboard and its attendants, rather than the people playing the game.
