1329903 2013-02-26 00:59:00 Thanks Chill. I will have a look to see what the subscription price is for NOD32 cf ESS - wainuitech says it is cheaper (above). That may sort it out for me. John H (8)

1329905 2013-02-26 01:55:00 MSE has tested quite poorly in more than a few recent tests.
The best freeware A/V currently is Panda Cloud, closely followed by Avast.

1329906 2013-02-26 02:57:00 Downloaded trial of Eset after reading this... not even half way through scan and it's found 3 things already.

Used MSE....

Thanks wainuitech for doing my research for me! I must be getting lazy in my old age eh? Not much cheaper over 3 PCs really cf ESS. Maybe I will just re-sign for ESS and avoid having to make the software change.

Thanks again to all of youse techies who responded.

Heard that all too often unfortunately. Definitely the reason why I pay for NOD32 antivirus. The trials are a fantastic way, as you've discovered, of saying "Yep we're better than what you've got, and here's proof".

Did you enable the detection of PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs) as well?

1329909 2013-02-26 03:24:00 Well what is the best FREE one now?? I'm Guessing still MSE.

I did the free 32 day trial of I think Smart Security on my laptop which is always running, and I noticed absolutely no difference. It was a nice interface though. It's a shame they don't offer a free version.

Thanks again to all of youse techies who responded . I'm a reseller of Eset ;) And thats not why I suggest it either ( theres a few of us here that are resellers), if it wasn't good enough I wouldn't sell it .

No worries about the research  Open the pricing spreadsheet - scroll down to renewal - 3 user - add Grab Snatch and Take to it = price . :)

Avast or Avir
Good enough for most users. Most malware infections are self inflicted, no AV program can protect from user stupidity.
Malware will & does get past ESET, its not perfect, perhaps the better of a bad bunch.

MSSE wont scan emails, nor will Avir freeware. That can be an issue .
ESET is quite good at email scanning.
