| 1330847 | 2013-03-01 23:20:00 | Does anyone here know anything about point-of-sale systems? My girlfriend is looking for something for her florist (software, till, thermal printer etc.), but is having trouble finding anywhere in New Zealand that offers what she wants. | pcuser42 (130) | ||

I can put you in touch with a expert. http://www.vendhq.com/ She's looked at that but wasn't keen on paying a monthly fee, she'd rather pay once for the lot. Happy to help with any questions etc! That looks quite good, would we be able to get a till and thermal printer as well as the software, and would her existing EFTPOS machine work with it? (It's an Ethernet one) |

DPS has great support, so I would recommend them for a PC eftpos solution I hope they make USB powered pinpads soon - all the current ones just use integrated USB to serial adaptors with separate power packs. I don't imagine a pinpad would require too much power. |

| 1330854 | 2013-03-02 22:47:00 | Yes we can supply all the hardware and you don't need to purchase a new EFTPOS machine as long as the software can handle an external machine as a payment method which I would expect they all do - WebvisPOS does. My contact details are on the website so feel free to call/email me and I can give you an accurate quote for everything she needs and answer any questions she may have. | Webbnzl (8810) | ||
| 1330855 | 2013-03-02 23:31:00 | I think your partner's idea to purchase a system out-right is the correct way to go. Be wary of "cloud based" accounting systems: typically a monthly subscription service, that's Internet only based. I talked to the senior sys admin and senior DBA at a Wellington based cloud based accounting system They've been running since creation, a number of years, without turning a profit. Though they were well-funded, they were very concerned about increasing sales, and get some blank ink in the ledger. Their change-control process was practically non-existent. Though I'm sure their security is somewhat reasonable, the customer has faith only that breaches would be reported. Naturally any financial or accounting company having a breach are reluctant to advertise the fact, as it affects customer confidence and sales. There's always the sticky question: what if everything you have is on a cloud-based service, and the company goes bust? |
