| 123404 | 2003-02-23 08:46:00 | Should a computer hang when two commands are inputted into it at the same time? Mine does. Short of pressing the Restart button, there does not seem to be anything I can do. But maybe there is? Like preloading some software that deals to hangs - bad ones that do not allow CTL+ALT+DEL. Any ideas? |

| 123406 | 2003-02-23 16:58:00 | Thanks, chilling silence. I have win 98se with Blackice firewall and ram idle. I always knew that windows is only a psuedo multi-task performer whereas Apple Macs are truley multi-task owing to their larger capacity. It seems that my problem still occurs with or without the firewall and with or without ramidle. |

| 123407 | 2003-02-23 17:01:00 | I also have an unresolved issue with the power down facility that I cannot find drivers for - but I believe that that is unrelated. Of course my processor is only 100MHz, and therein, I think, lies the source. | eef2 (1904) | ||

Uninstall this to start off with. once thats done, monitor any errors you get and report back here with what they say. 100mhz is slow but theres no reason why it should make it hang, unless your hardware is out of sync (caused by RAM timming etc) |

| 123409 | 2003-02-23 20:17:00 | Yes, 100Mhz would be slow, but with more than 32MB RAM should be fine. I would check: http://www.superrsoft.com - Super Rabbit Magic Set www.annoyances.org - TweakUI download those and give them a shot, also, search the Pf1 archives for a proggy called FreshUI and try that too. All these will tweak your system and hopefully speed it up! Cheers Chilling_Silence |

| 123410 | 2003-02-23 21:56:00 | running 98 on a 100mhz is just begging for problems. go back to win95. try to run the least amount of programs at the same time, for eg get rid of ram idle programs, they are simply sucking cpu power and resources both of which you need more than ram. | tweak'e (174) | ||
| 123411 | 2003-02-23 22:11:00 | Well, Ive fun it on a 486 DX 50Mhz with 24MB RAM... It wasnt too bad, but it was slow. Tweak it, or it will bebegging for trouble, but the minimum sys specs I think is a 486 for 98, but they reccommend a P133or something, i should really look into that :-) Get rid of all programs loading at boot if you can, you only need systray and explorer. Dont run AV permanantly coz that'll kill your system for speed... Hit Start Run type: msconfig edit things that are in the startup tab mainly, but have a look around, and as always when tweaking, be careful :-) You CAN get it to run nicely :-) Just takes a little patience and the right programs :-) Disable backgrounds andnon-standard cursors etc. too! | 123412 | 2003-02-23 22:26:00 | running 98 by itself is not the problem as such. its trying to run all the other neccary programs such as antivirus, web browser, email, graphics etc when win98 is useing most of the ram and cpu to to run itself. just use software that matches your hardware. you will get a whole lot less problems that way. |

Oh, yes, my dad in his infinite wisdom installed AVG while I was out one afternoon. It almost rolled over and died! Email and browsing is okay, although admittedly a little slow. The 32MB RAM is the bottleneck, as a P75 with 64MB RAM I had running ran SOOOOO much better! Graphics on anything under 233Mhz? I wouldnt try it with anything other than paint or MS Photo Editor! > just use software that matches your hardware. you > will get a whole lot less problems that way. Agreed. |
